Have you ever wanted to wield magic? Is battling mythical creatures and riding on dragons a daydream for you? Let’s be real– That’s unlikely to come true (unfortunately). However, what if there was another alternative? In the form of books? Well, you’re in luck. Here’s a list of three fantasy series with magical and immersive worlds that will leave you wanting more.
- A Court of Thrones and Roses – Sarah J. Maas
A Court of Thrones and Roses, a BookTok sensation by Sarah J. Maas dives into the world of Prythian and beyond. What’s a human to do when thrown into a world of cold-blooded faeries? Feyre Archeron, a 19-year-old girl faces this situation, as she navigates who to trust and the greater evils lurking. Full of faeries (immortal fairy-like beings) and a multitude of other new mythical creatures, it’s sure to captivate you till the very end. What’s more, if you like some romance sprinkled in, you’ll be satisfied as there are twists and turns, along with heartbreak. Even if romance isn’t your cup of tea, you’ll still found yourself immersed in the world as it’s balanced out with plot twists and labyrinthine characters. There are three main books in the series, with a spin-off and a short novel on the side. Keep in mind the series may not be suitable for younger readers.
- Percy Jackson and the Olympians – Rick Riordan
Demigods, monsters and more. What could be better? In Percy Jackson and the Olympians, a book series by Rick Riordan, you’ll find all this and more. Percy Jackson has always been different. His dyslexia and his penchant to constantly get into trouble has caused him to constantly move school to school, only lasting a few months before getting expelled. However his world changes when he discovers he’s a demigod (half-god, half-human). And a powerful one at that, being the son of Poseidon himself. After ending up at Camp Half-Blood, Percy begins his rigorous training, from controlling his abilities to sword fighting. The series is set in the 21st century, creating a peculiar mix of ancient Greek gods and the modern day. And if you’re done with the series and want more, fret not. There are multiple other stories all set in the Percy Jackson Universe. Although they might not live up to the first series, they are definitely worth checking out if you’re craving more of Percy Jackson.
- Harry Potter – J.K. Rowling
And now we have the best for last, my personal favorite, a classic. Would this list really be complete without mentioning the wide world of Harry Potter created by J.K. Rowling? Harry Potter focuses on a boy named, well, Harry Potter. After the stunning revelation that he’s a wizard, Harry embarks on a journey to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Accompanied by his closest friends, Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley, he battles dementors, death eaters, and a variety of other fantastical creatures. The antagonist, Voldemort (noseless, bald man), throughout the series constantly attacks Harry and his friends, fueled by a prophecy. Add in an exciting and fun cast of entertaining characters, you’ll get the adventure of a lifetime. I enjoyed the whole series, from the first book to the final 7th. Harry Potter is a great series to start with when reading fantasy, and you’ll be joining a whole fan base full of fun tidbits and activities to do related to the series.
So, grab your kindle, head to a library, or a bookstore, and prepare to be lost in a world of magic and adventure. Happy reading!
